In celebration of the new version of Ronia the robbers daughter by Goro Miyazaki I drew this. It is sort of a paraphrase of the original cover by Ilon Wikland, but I added a John Bauer-ish forest as backround instead.
I love Ronia to bits so I am both exited and a bit scared to see this new adaption. I hope it will be good. (There is also a new “The Brothers Lionheart” movie coming soon which is also exiting/scary)
Of course I listened a lot to this while drawing.
I’m going to London so this is the last you’ll see from me in a while. This is another attempt to draw Rosilda, seen here with her brother Arild. I’ve been wanting to draw this scene from “…and the white shadows in the forest” for a long time, the main character Berta and her sister watches Rosilda with her long hair out and flowers all around her.
I have a lot of feelings about these books.
I made an illustration of my impression of Arild and Rosilda from the book “…and the white shadows in the forest” (My translation) by Maria Gripe. They are twins and they live isolated in a big castle full of tradgedy and secrets… It’s one of my favourite books, I have loved it since I was a child and I still find new things about it even now. It’s one of those books that I reread once in a while just to be able to experience the feelings again.
I don’t think I can properly explain how much I love Rue. I love that Princess tutu doesn’t have a black and white worldview, that all of the characters have flaws and good sides to them. I love that Rue isn’t at all the jealous villain stereotype that she might seem to be in the beginning. I recognize her feeling of corrupting everything she touches so much.
